In August Kayla moved to Germany. She has adjusted well, and, as best as I can tell, she took the flight in stride with no ill-effects. Kind of amazing for a pup that struggles with car rides, but each time we saw her in her kennel at the airport, she was just lying down. (Not drugged at all or anything). Then, when we met her and Penny in Munich, she didn't begin barking until she saw us. People were there in baggage claim, petting her and saying hello through the door of her kennel, but it was only after Aaron shouted, "There's Kayla and Penny!" that Kayla began to shout back. She waited until we got through customs and were outside to go potty. What a champ.
One advantage to living in Germany is that Kayla is welcome at many / most restaurants and other events. People here bring their dogs to stores and, well, pretty much everywhere. It's like Colorado, only friendlier. Here are pics from her first visit to a biergarten, where she learned a new word: WURST! Unfortunately, we generally leave Penny at home. She simply cannot handle the walking necessary for long trips to the city, even when we go on the UBahn.
Now, I'm looking forward to getting Kayla up to the ALPS in the next couple of weeks!!! What a recovery, indeed. She was chasing rabbits just two weeks ago, and last week she went for a nice, long walk along the Isar. She also goes jogging with me 3 x a week. Basically, when we leave the house without her these days, she feels insulted. :-)
